Visual Text Analysis by Chris (9)



Image
The picture shows sharks in the ocean and one, in particular, wearing a panda mask. On the bottom right it is written," Would you care more if I was a panda?"

Linguistic Features
The language is plain and simple, very direct. The sentence," Would you care more if I was a panda?" It leaves a deep impression on the reader as it makes us realise the way we look at sharks, how the media has shaped our opinions on them.

Textual Features
Below the sentence," Would you care more if I was a panda?", has a link to the website.

Typographical Features
The sentence," Would you care more if I was a panda?" is all capitalised, this is to attract the readers attention to the main idea.

Layout
The sentence," Would you care more if I was a panda?" is placed on the bottom right to attract the readers attention and the shark with the panda mask is in the middle t make it stand out.

Colour
It displays the colours of the ocean and makes some parts of the ocean brighter due to the shine from the surface. The drawing accompanied by the colours make it very realistic.

PACC
Purpose: To tell people that how we look at sharks is not really how it is by comparing sharks with pandas.

Audience: Everyone who thinks that sharks are monstrous creatures/do not know much about sharks other than media.

Context: What we know about sharks has affected how we look at them. This happens in media such as news or social platforms like Facebook.

Culture: People whose views on sharks have been shaped by media.

visual text Ian Izree S1-03


Image: it shows a toothbrush with toothpaste, but it also shows a forest on fire and smoke rising and  animals moving out of the forest.

Linguistic features :they are trying to say that whatever we buy, may have contributed to the haze  And cause animals to lose their homes and wants us to buy eco-friendly products instead.

Text features :  at the bottom, there is phrase that says “we breathe what we buy” so that means that if we don't change the products we buy, we will breathe in the haze and suffer.

Typographical Features: There is a phrase bold saying “WE BREATHE WHAT WE BUY” meaning that whatever un -Eco friendly product we buy, will cause harm to the environment and in turn affect us.

Layout : the toothbrush is the most eye catching thing the the poster, when people see it, it will capture their attention.

Color: is slightly dark, probably to symbolize the burning of the forest

Porpose: it is to show that buying of some products may cause buring of forest to make products.

Audience : it is mainly all of us who like to buy and that we should watch out when buying

Context: i think it is to remind people to save the environment and buy Eco friendly products.

Culture: it is for all of us

Image:         This image is Under Armour advertising for their new shoes.  The colour of the socks and pants are the same as the colour of the shoes.  Which makes the shoe look very outstanding.  The dark coloured background also made the blue shoe stand out.                                                       Linguistic features:    In this poster, the headlines read out "I CAN DO ALL THINGS."  This headlines relate to the shoe because they are trying to show that you can do everything with that shoe.  It also means if you do not buy one of these shoes, you will not be able to do everything.
Textual Features:   The text encourage people to buy this shoe so that they can achieve greater heights and goals.  It is also trying to indirectly tell people that they will not improve if they do not buy those shoes.
Purpose: The purpose of this whole poster is to lure buyers to buy the shoes.  By luring the buyers, they got Stephen Curry, the person in the poster, to help them to advertise.  Stephen curry is a well known basketball player around the world.
Audience:  The general public, especially basketball players.
Context:  It causes the buyers to more attracted to this shoe as a famous basketball player is advertising it.  Fans of that basketball player may also just buy the shoe just because their favourite player advertised it.  I think that a lot of people will buy the shoes because the brand of the shoes are trustable and very famous.
Culture:  This image is seen everywhere which makes it a common sight.

The picture in the poster shows an adult penguin trying to pull out a plug of an electrical appliance (light) from a plug socket.  The two penguins are standing on a block of ice that is tiny. This shows that it is melting rapidly. The background is a pale blue colour, which makes the penguins, the block of ice the plug and socket, and the electrical appliance stand out to show the message of the story.

Linguistic features
The language used is informal. The tone has some level of urgency, showing that it is crucial to do it. In the poster, the headlines read, "Turn it Off Now!" These words illustrate to the audience that they should start turning off all electrical appliances starting from now. 

Textual Features
The word "Off" in the headlines has been given emphasis. It shows the audience what to do about the electrical appliances which are turned on. 


Typographical Features
At the bottom of the poster, the words "Help Stop Global Warming" are written in bold. It shows how serious the matter is. This caption also encourages the audience to follow what it says. 

Layout 
The picture captures the most attention of the public because it takes up the most space on the poster. The words are at the top and catch lesser attention. Even so, the picture tells most of the message, on its own. It also makes the reader look at it before the caption, so that they can get an idea of what the poster is trying to show.    

Colour
The background colour is pale blue. This makes the picture stand out from the poster. There is also light shining from the lamp, showing that it is on and that it is affecting the penguins and other animals who live in the same habitat. Overall, the components make the poster effective in bringing the message across.

P.A.C.C.
Purpose: To spread the message of helping to stop global warming on the earth by turning off all the electrical appliances when not in use.
Audience: The general public, especially those who do not care to turn off the electrical appliances which are running. 
Context: It causes the reader to think of the consequences of not turning off running electrical appliances. 
Culture: The image is very clear, showing what the effects of global warming are, and also makes it more relatable.


Gavin Tay's Visual Text

In the poster, there is a picture of a tree; it's leaves are made out of words.
Linguistic Features
In the poster, the headlines read,"Save our environment for a better tomorrow."This means that if we do not save the environment, our lives will get worse.
Textual Features
The picture also tells the reader that there are various ways to save the earth based on the words on the trees.There are also words related to the theme "Save the Earth".
Typographical Features
At the bottom of the poster, there are pictures of HSBC, Victoria's university, etc.That is probably where the poster originates from.
Layout

The image is placed in the middle of the poster, the headline in the big font at the top and the body copy in smaller font below the picture. Hence, it will attract the reader to look at the picture before looking at the words.
Colour

The colours used are green and yellow.Green is the natural nature colour so it will be used.Yellow symbolises a brighter future for us if we keep the environment clean.
PACC
Purpose: To tell the readers to play a part in keeping the earth clean so as to not dirty the environment.
Audience: The general public, especially those that do not regard environmental pollution as a concern.Context: It causes the reader to think about how their actions affect the environment.
Culture: The image is commonly seen and makes it more relatable to all viewers.

The image shows a Facebook like sign holding a knife.

Linguistic features
I think they are trying to say that even online, you can make use of social media to hurt someone like hurting someone in real life with a knife. This shows that your etiquette online can be hurtful to others if you misuse your power online.

Text features 
There is a lot of emphasis on the word feelings on the middle of the poster. I think that the person who created the poster is trying to show how important the word feelings is as you can hurt other people's feelings very easily online.

Typographical features 
The word 'feelings' is  bolded and capitalized to put emphasis on it because it wants to capture people's attention to it.

Layout 
The like sign holding a knife is placed slightly above the middle portion of the poster as it will attract the most attention when it is in the middle. The important message is put directly under the photo because the audience can read the message after looking at the image.

Colour
The poster is mainly a dark shade of blue as the main colour for Facebook is dark blue and Facebook users will be able to relate to the poster

PACC

Purpose 
I think the main purpose of this poster is to remind people who use many social platforms to be mindful of what they do and say online as what they say can be hurtful to others feelings.
Audience 
I think the audience is mainly people who use social media or social platforms, not only people who  use Facebook but other social media such as Instagram and Twitter.
Context
I think the context is that people nowadays use a lot of social media and many people use these sites to bully others.
Culture
I think the context is for people who are more modern and use social media.

Isaac Chng Visual Text



Image
The image is a crumpled up ball of paper that is made to look like the Earth. I think this represents the Earth becoming rubbish through our actions, as the poster's content suggests. 

Linguistic Features
The main line of the visual text is "OUR PLANET IS WHAT WE MAKE OF IT." I think that this means that Earth is shaped through our actions. If we ruin it, it will become likened to garbage as the picture suggests.
 
Textual Features
There is main emphasis on the headline and the image. They are the most prominent items on the visual text. This will direct the reader to comprehend the headline, getting its message clear.

Typographical Features
If readers would like to know more about the initiative, they can go to the website which address is in bold.

Layout
The two far sides of the visual text are grey, which divert attention the bright green section in the middle. The headline is displayed in capitals, bold and in a large font size to catch the reader's attention.

Color
The grey colored sections divert attention to the bright green colored section, which gives the reader an impression of a clean enviroment, nature, cleanliness.
PACC
Purpose: To get readers to care for the environment
Audience: Readers who do not care for the environment
Context: Saving the environment
Culture: Modern era where there is less care for environment
