Dear Cousin Ron

I am extremely glad that you, Aunty Maggie and Uncle Tom are planning to make a trip to Singapore! I will sure recommend all of the most iconic and cultural places of Singapore to you!

One of Singapore's famous landmark would be The Singapore Flyer, which is the world's largest observation wheel! You can not only admire the breath-taking view but even take on the role of a pilot using the Real Flight Simulator. I think that you will love to shop at Singapore famous "durian" shaped mall- The Esplanade. The Esplanade is a world-class entertainment establishment, housing a concert hall which seats up to 1600 and a theatre with a capacity of up to 2000 for performing arts. There is also a wide variety of places to dine in and to whet the visitor dining and shopping appetites.

Visiting  Chinatown and Little India would certainly be two of the best places to learn more about Singapore's cultural aspects. Chinatown has beautiful shophouse many religious landmarks of different faiths. You can even feel as if you have been in the past as you take trishaw ride around the vicinity, bargain at the lively street market where you can find souvenirs, clothing, and other goods. You can walk around the famous Little India, one of the most colourful districts where there are gaily painted shophouses selling traditional Indian apparel. You also buy souvenirs at Little India's biggest shopping mall- Mustafa Centre.

I suggest you should try out some Singapore's delicious, finger-licking delicacies, such as Fish Head Curry. It may not sound appetising, but Fish Head Curry is actually one of Singapore's specialties. Hainanese chicken rice is also one of Singapore's most iconic and well-known dish.

Well, I really hope that these few places and dishes can help your planning to Singapore. I'm really hoping to see you soon Ron!

Yours sincerely
Ray Shyuan

English level test 1 corrections by Tan Ray Shyuan

"Good job, Joanne, you're the top scorer for English!" Mdm Wong said in front of class. I saw the envy looks of my classmates as I walked towards Madam Wong to get a prize. Flashbacks of how hard it took to receive this award appeared in my mind......
" Argh! Is it English period now?" I grumbled, feeling annoyed as Mdm Wong, my English teacher was strict and could never tolerate loud noises." Class stand!" Madam Wong bellowed. Everyone quickened their pace and sat in their seats, including me. Madam Wong's thick eyebrows and bushy hair made her appearance more menacing. After greeting her Madam Wong, she started giving out the class test papers we had done the previous week. Slowly one by one, Madam Wong called our names.
" Joanne!" Madam Wong called my name. Like a cat on hot bricks, I went up to her. Out of the blue, she started to yell at me," Not only is your handwriting notorious, but you also scored the lowest for this test in 6A!" From that day onwards, my hatred for her was more than ever.
Many weeks have passed, it was finally the end of year examination! Oh, how I wished I had studied for it, That day, I went to school with a blank mind, waiting to do the paper.
Your time starts now!" Our invigilator announced. "Piece of cake." I thought. However, I was gravely mistaken. As I flipped open the first page, my mind was blank. I thought as hard as I could but to no avail. Regrets hit me like a tidal wave as I Wished I could go back time to study for my examinations.
"Ding...Dong.." the bell rang, everyone put down their pens and smiled, seemingly satisfied. However, on the other hand, I had struggled to finish the paper.  After the paper, students were allowed to go home. Thus, I went back, thinking of the dire examination.
The next day when I went to school, stood Madam Wong outside the classroom. I quickly scurried to class, hoping that she would not see me. " Joanne." Madam Wong called. I stopped my footsteps and turned around unwillingly. " Joanne, could you meet me after school today?" Madam Wong said to me in a shockingly gentle voice. I nodded my head in acknowledgement and walked to the classroom.
The school had just ended; I hurried to the Staff Room where I saw Madam Wong. She greeted me with a smile as I sat beside her. Patiently and slowly, Mdm Wong tutored me, helping me understand each and every question of the examination paper. At that time, I felt guilty, for thinking that Madam Wong had been picking on me.
" Joanne! Wake up!" My best friend Jia Hui shouted at me. I snapped out of my daydream and started packing my bag. On the way home, I felt grateful to Madam Wong, helping me achieve what I have today.

English Alternative Assessment corrections by Tan Ray Shyuan

"Run!” Kendra yelled at Jewel. They ran as fast as lightning but were still caught by a

mischievous piglet. “ I finally caught you!  Little humans,” It  said, grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Kendra and Jewel were then placed in a big jar with holes in the lid.  “Jewel! Why did you do

this?” Kendra yelled at Jewel. Apparently, they had gone to a parallel universe, via a portal.

“ Here you go.” The piglet said as he threw Kendra and Jewel into a  cage.Their eyes darted

from side to side, to their surprise, many humans were living in the cage.

The cage’s condition was horrible, it smelled like rotten eggs, with human faeces everywhere.

Kendra and Jewel could not believe their eyes; they had to find a way to escape.

That night, Kendra and Jewel had to sleep on filthy mattresses. The next day, Kendra

Revealed her big plan to the humans living there. When she talked to the humans, they all

approved of her idea, but knew that it was impossible for that to happen.

“ Eureka!” Kendra shrieked. A brilliant idea suddenly struck her. “ What is it?” Jewel

asked curiously.  “  When the piglet feeds us and opens the gate,  someone will run out so that

The attention goes to him, and then, we will all dash out! Kendra explained.

“Creak," the gate opened, they sprang into action.  John, a fellow human, sacrificed himself

Moreover, tried to divert attention. Then, the piglet started to chase after him. However, they had

underestimated it, it quickly caught up with John and squashed him in a blink of

An eye. Everyone was shocked with fear; they had shivers sent down their spines.

“ That is what will happen if any of you try to escape!” It laughed. The look in the piglet eyes made their blood run cold. Then, he walked away.   “

Kendra asked the remaining humans remorsefully, “ Anyone still wants to join me for plan

B?”. There was a long silence.

“ We must avenge John’s death!” some humans protested. On the other hand, some

people disagreed as more innocent lives might be sacrificed.

Everyone began distrusting each other, and if that were to continue, they would be stuck

There forever! Kendra wanted to change the mindset of them; thus, she gave motivational speeches to encourage them to work together.

After many talks, everyone finally agreed. Now, they had to carry out the plan, “ To play

dead”. “ It may seem simple, but, one wrong move and we are all dead as a dodo,” Jewel

warned.

The next morning, plan B was carried out. They laid on the ground, not moving a single

muscle. Finally, piglet woke up and was dumbfounded to see all of his "pets" lifelessly on the

ground. Kendra and Jewel and stayed as still as a statue. It then throw them around, checking if

they were dead.

After what seemed like an eternity, the piglet gave up and was convinced that they were all

dead. He then left the cage at the garbage dump.

“ We are free!” Everyone screamed with joy; they were finally out of misery! If it was not for

Kendra's determination; they would be still trapped in that "living hell."

Somebody: Kendra and Jewel Wanted: To escape the cage But: Their plan failed So: The

humans had a conflict Then: They decided to work together

Creative Writing Task 3 by Tan Ray Shyuan

When I was a child, I well remember bringing a homeless, stray and dirty kitten back home. My mother, who hated cats, screamed with shock and anger. I had no choice but to leave the kitten behind. My mother then chided me and told me to go to bed! It was only three o'clock! I pleaded with her but to no avail.
I dragged my feet inch by inch to my room, when I opened the door, my once seemingly bright and colourful room suddenly became dark and quiet. I dreadfully tugged myself to bed, trying everything I could to sleep but to no use. At last! I fell into a deep sleep.
" Creak", the door opened. Being a light sleeper, I woke up and tried to peek to see who it was. It was my sister! She sat beside me, brushing her fingers through my hair. How comforting it was. minutes and minutes had gone by, my sister's hands stopped moving, she was asleep!
The next day, I smiled at my sister like a Cheshire cat, thinking I how lucky I was to have such a caring sister.

Kendra braced herself for the wort and turned around; however, nothing could be seen, It sent shivers down her spine and she quickened her pace.

“Young girl! Your wallet has dropped!” a man called. Kendra turned around, feeling silly and puzzled. She then took the wallet from his hand and thanked him profusely.

Creative Writing Task 1 By Tan Ray Shyuan (7)

One of my memories would be her sister, i remember her sitting down elegantly with her long legs she had a small face with a small mouth, and was wearing her all time favourite purple blouse.

A place that I used to play would be the playground just below my flat, the playground was not big, in fact it was small.  I remember hearing the excited voices of my cousins and sister as we played there.

I used to live in my 5-room  Housing Development Board, flat. My home was cozy, however, I would often hear the loud whistling of the Mass Rapid Transit just beside my late. The computer room would be the area that I spent my time as our cousins and my sister will play there together.
 These are my earliest memories.
