English Alternative Assessment Corrections By Tan Jing Yu (22)

Tim purchased a food pellet, which an entire meal shrunk into a pellet and stepped

out of the machine, taking in a breath of fresh air within The Walls, four big metal walls

with a glass dome for a ceiling, which protects the lab-grown humans living within, from

the outside heat, which had increased to a scorching 90 degrees Celsius, as in the year

2012 marked end of the world by the Mayan calendar, the sun became much closer to

earth, setting most of the trees on fire and killing most of the society, in response, the

major governments of the world built these four walls to save what is left of humanity, and

to start anew

Tim walked over the artificially grown grass, to reach a small building, about to be

overtaken by some artificial vines, within this building was a little group of Explorers, a

group of people who venture out in special suits to study the outside world, as the

leader, Tim was greeted warmly and was told about a recent find, a special Deer that

could survive the heat in the wild.

Upon hearing this news, Tim gathered up his best Explorers and headed towards The

Wall’s exit, Tim picked up his special suit and placed his helmet over his head, he took

a minute to get used to the smell, the helmet had a distinctive smell, almost like a plane,

but at this point breathing the air in the mask for Tim was as easy as breathing fresh air

within the walls, as Tim was an experienced Explorer, and had gone on many

expeditions before with his fellow Explorers, standing before him, “Air compression in

progress, please standby,” was the last sound they had heard from the intercom of the

door before they stepped out into the outside world. And walked towards the last known

location of The Deer.

They finally reached the last known location of The Deer in an hour, they found it

near a few dead trees, Tim and his Explorers positioned themselves around The Deer,

hidden from sight, one of them walked out slowly with their hand out with food pellets,

the Deer was attracted to the pellets, Tim raised his right hand, signalling for the others

to attack.

After what seemed like an eternity, they had finally returned to The Walls with a

sedated deer, ready for examination. They brought it to the Explorer lab, and after hours

of tests and exams, they concluded that a special enzyme within the Deer’s blood

produced a thicker skin and colder sweat, these two features allowed it to survive in the

heat, through Natural Selection, which stated that through years of breeding and

generations of Deer, eventually a generation would emerge that could survive the heat.

At this moment the Deer started to wake up from the sedation, they immediately asked

for more sedative to let the Deer relax again, as soon as they injected it, they had

unknowingly killed The Deer.

Despite this setback, Tim remained optimistic, and used what was left of the

enzyme, and introduced small amounts into some experimental test tube embryos, and

all they could do was wait, and keep going on more expeditions to hopefully, find

another Deer.

When I was a child, I well remember I pooped on the floor, my mom scolded me and forced me in bed.  I threw myself at her, begging.  I cried terribly clinging on to her legs, unwilling to let go.
Soon, I got into the room, reluctantly getting between the sheets, unable to fall asleep.  I lay there, daydreaming.  I cried silently and tears filled my eyes.  I thought to myself,"  Why is my mom to unfair to me?"  The room looked green in colour, I heard the sounds of passing cars.  My vision blurred as I slowly dozed off.
I fell asleep for quite a while.Something touched me.  It felt warm.Till this day, I still did not know what touched me.

When I was a little girl, I well remember looking at the short hair of models on magazines covers and wishing my hair was short too. One day, I saw a pair of scissors on the study table my father used and decided to get a trim. My long, unruly black hair fell to the cold, hard tiles in few seconds in a few seconds. My mother forced me into my room. I held on to the legs of a huge wooden chair and threw a tantrum. My mother pulled me by the legs and dragged me into my into my room, slamming the wooden door at my tear stained face.

I sulked and sat at the edge of my bed. I looked around for entertainment and saw a mirror. I got up and stared at my reflection. I loved the edgy and short look. I posed and giggled at my silliness. The room was a mess, band posters filled up every inch of the walls. I soon collapsed out of utter exhaustion and fell asleep in the comfort of my bouncy bed.

A loud knocking noise woke me up. The moonlight shone bright onto my face, almost blinding me. Dark shadows of branches replaced the posters on the wall. I sat there, frightened. Then a comforting, unfamiliar presence. I looked around and saw nobody.

Till this day, I wonder whose presence I felt on that dark and terrifying night.

“The radioactive center in London has exploded. It was because of a mixture of several chemicals. The scientists are trying to assess the damage. No casualties have been reported.”The reporter stated.
Tim was a nineteen-year-old boy.He had almond shaped blue eyes, short curly hair.Usually, Tim was adventurous but upon hearing the news, he screamed:“I’m going to die if I don’t stay away from the site, the further the better.”He felt paralyzed with terror, but quickly regained his composure and went to pack a bag which contained his bare necessities.
He knew that it was a matter of time before everyone in that area turned into zombies. The mixture for zombies was highly contagious. In school, Tim learned that when an atom possesses excess energy, it causes them to be unstable. For it to be stable again, the atom rids itself of the energy by casting it off in the form of radiation.
Tim went to research on the radioactive chemical. He found out that he should distance himself from the contaminated site and cover himself with something so the radioactivity would not affect him that much.
Five minutes later, it was reported that the scientists turned into zombies and went to start his car.Unfortunately, it ran out of fuel.
Suddenly, a horde of zombies appeared behind him. There was blood on their faces, and they looked hungry.A chill went down Tim’s spine, and he made a dash for his bicycle and started to cycle. His heart began racing at the speed of an F1 racing car.He didn’t stop until the zombies were completely out of sight.
Tim’s apprehension started to disappear. He realized the night was closing in fast. Before sleeping, he decided to do more research on the radioactive chemical.
He found out that the only way to cure the zombies was with juice that could identify cells infected by viruses and kill them, terminating the infection.
The cure was apple juice. All Tim needed to do was splash apple juice on the zombies.
Upon finding that piece of valuable information, Tim immediately bookmarked the page and went to sleep. The next day, Tim woke up, only to find himself surrounded by zombies.
He rummaged through his backpack and thankfully had brought a bottle of apple juice.Tim swiftly opened the bottle and splashed it at the zombies.Just as Tim hoped, the zombies turned into humans after shuddering a few times. The scientists were at a loss for words. After overcoming their loss of speech, they thanked Tim for saving them.
Tim went to the supermarket and bought apple juice. He went to notify the police about his discovery of the cure.
The police tracked him and went to “arm” them with the juice. Then, they deployed forces to cure the zombies.Within a day, the police came back and told Tim,“Everything is over.”
The country was grateful towards Tim for his discovery. The president of Europe gave a medal to Tim.It had “Thanks” imprinted on it.
Tim was jubilant. His eyes brimmed with tears of joy, and he thanked the president for awarding him.He thought to himself,“Thank goodness I survived.”
Tim thanked his lucky stars, and that incident would be etched in his mind, forever.

English Alternative assessment corrections

Little Joe always dreamed of being a hero, like a firefighter who was respected for saving victims from the fiery cauldron of flames. Despite being the scrawniest boy in class, Little Joe always held on to this dream.
As time flew by, Little Joe had grown bigger, but not much, and always lost to his peers regarding stature. But Joe rose above all when it came to intellect.
Joe eventually became a professor at the New Technology University where the latest virtual reality technologies were used to enhance his teaching.
It happened to be a day where Joe was about to read an article called ‘The Vacuum’. After ten minutes of reading, Joe noticed tendrils of smoke coming from outside the window and it attracted his attention.  What lay before him was a terrible sight.
The building opposite was completely engulfed in flames. It turned out that an experiment involving diesel, a flammable substance, had gone wrong! The inferno ate up everything mercilessly in its path, slowly heading towards Joe. Joe was stunned and had no idea what to do. The roar of the fire soon shook him back to reality and decided to escape from the menacing fire.
When Joe finally got out of the building, he noticed that the flames had already engulfed half the school compound. The school supposedly was equipped with anti-fire technology, but what he saw was otherwise. That was when the article he was reading, ‘ The Vacuum’ came to his mind. That was it. He had to create a vacuum to stop the fire. Without oxygen,  the fire would not be able to burn. Joe needed to get his message across fast, so he whipped out his tablet and soon managed to connect to everyone on the school compound.
“ Attention all..” His voice echoed across the school.
Joe’s plan was to go at a high speed on the levitation train that encircled the whole school to create a difference in the air pressure. This would create a vacuum to put out the fire.
Joe sprinted to the train. He found a few students who wanted to help and they quickly boarded the train. As the students tried to hack into the train’s system, Joe could feel his heart palpitating rapidly. His mouth was dry, but forehead was wet with perspiration. “What if my idea doesn't work?” he asked himself.
With a deep breath, Joe started the train, frequently signalling to the students to increase the speed slowly. The train so fast until it was nothing but a blur. The people on the train hoped and prayed that the idea would work. To their amazement, the flames started to die out and was soon reduced to ash. Joe could not believe his eyes; he had saved the school!
The train reduced speed and eventually came to a stop. Joe and the students brimmed with pride and stepped out the train and was cheered on by dozens of people. Joe could see the gratitude in them. Nothing could replace that feeling.
       Joe was a hero.

Somebody called Joe,
Wanted to be a hero,
But was too scrawny to save anyone,
So he became the best professor in University,
Then a fire broke out; he used a vacuum to put out the fire

My room has many drawing by my father. the curtains were undrawn, and light flooded the room. as soon as my grandma left, I got angry and started jumping on the bed until I got tired. I closed my eyes and dozed off.

When I woke up, it was already dark. the apartment opposite my house was shining brightly with all the rooms filled with lights. Then the door open. I hid under the blanket, as a form of protection against the visitor.

The next morning, my mother came up to me and said,"you don't always sleep under the blanket. What happens last night.?" so the visitor was my mother, I laughed at myself.

When I was a child, I well remembered during my little years of life, I pushed my friend into a pool, and he punished me severely.
It was at my condominium pool, and I was swimming with my father. The pool was unusually empty, so my dad and I had plenty of space to play. Just as my father was standing beside the deep pool enjoying life, I decided to push him inside. With a heave, I threw him into the pool. That was the worst mistake alive. My parents found out and sent me to bed. I begged and begged, but to no avail. I got sent to bed for an hour.
I reluctantly dragged my feet to my bedroom. The sun shone into my bedroom, and a patch on my bed was scorching. I changed as slowly as possible to kill time, then slumped onto my bed, waiting for that hour to pass so that I could continue playing with my friend.
Nighttime soon arrived. I jolted up. The room was silent; I could faintly hear my heartbeat. With dismay, I fell into a troubled doze.
Not long later, I felt a pair of gentle, soft hands holding mine. It felt comforting, and I closed my eyes, not wanting to escape from this moment, my reverie.
I woke up, the next morning. Who could it be that held my hand in my reverie? I asked my parents, but they said they did not. Till today, I am still puzzled about the shadowy figure.
